No November fireworks at Hatfield House

July 1, 2011

A POPULAR Bonfire Night firework display, which raised cash for the mayor of Welwyn Hatfield’s charities, will not take place this November.

In honour of Hatfield House’s 400th anniversary a special celebratory firework picnic will take place in September instead.

The September 10 event, billed as “the largest display in Britain this year”, will be set to music, which will be broadcast live.

The mayor’s firework display began in 2009 as the brainchild of then mayor Kim Langley.

A Welwyn Hatfield Council spokeswoman said: “We’ve been informed Hatfield House potentially will not be hosting a fireworks display on Bonfire Night this year.

This is because Hatfield House is organising a celebratory event, to include a firework extravaganza, in September for its 400th anniversary.

“We’re thankful to Hatfield House for organising the display on behalf of the mayor’s charities for the last two years and hope that there may be the opportunity to work in partnership again next year.”
